What is a DA2PPV vaccine?
A DA2PPv (also known as a DA2PP) is a combination vaccine for dogs and puppies. A combination vaccine offers protection against several dog serious diseases in a single shot. The DA2PPV vaccine offers dogs protection against many of the "Core" canine diseases. These include Canine Distemper (D), Canine Adenovirus Type 1 (A) (hepatitis), Canine Adenovirus Type 2 (A2) (kennel cough), Parainfluenza (P), and Parvovirus (PV) in dogs. These canine diseases are caused by viruses and are very contagious, so vaccination is the best way to keep dogs protected.
A 5-way dog vaccine contains modified-live or killed versions of common canine diseases. Like other dog vaccines, DA2PPV vaccines must be kept cool and refrigerated until they are administered through injection.
When Should a Dog Be Given a DA2PP Vaccine?
A 5-in-1 vaccine dog is recommended for non-breeding dogs that are not often exposed to areas of standing water outdoors. Since a DA2PP vaccine protects against common dog diseases, it is also recommended to be the first 5 way puppy shot given. A puppy should receive its first dose around the time it begins weaning. In general, it is recommended that a 5-way puppy vaccine is given when the puppy is around six, eight, twelve and fourteen weeks of age. For adult dogs, annual revaccination is recommended for the DA2PPV vaccine.

- Canine Parainfluenza: Respiratory tract infection that is typically more severe in young puppies.
- Canine Hepatitis (Adenovirus type 1): Causes reoccurring respiratory problems.
